The game doesn't hear me

Check the game is allowed to use the microphone and speech recognition: iPhone Settings → Name the Countries. Make sure Listen is on (the button turns gold). You can always type countries instead with the keyboard button.

It says a country "doesn't fit"

In a daily challenge only countries that match the challenge count, for example only countries in Europe, or starting with C.

A country I said isn't on the list

The game uses the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City, Palestine and Taiwan (196 in all). Places like Greenland, Puerto Rico or Hong Kong are parts of other countries, and the game will tell you so.

How are borders and disputed places shown?

The map follows the positions of the United Nations, the same basis as the list of 196 countries. Where the UN treats a place as part of a country (for example Crimea as part of Ukraine, and the Golan Heights as part of Syria), it's shown that way. Places that aren't on the list, such as Western Sahara, Kosovo, Northern Cyprus and Somaliland, are shown in grey. In Kashmir the map shows the lines of actual control, as most international maps do. This isn't a political statement; it keeps one consistent rule for everyone.

I can't hear names read back

Turn on "Read names aloud" in Settings, and check your iPhone isn't on silent.

Daily reminder

Turn it on in the game's Settings (iPhone app). It arrives at 9am. If nothing comes, allow notifications in iPhone Settings → Name the Countries → Notifications.

Things you can say

Any country, one after another; "how many left?"; "go to Africa" or "show me the Caribbean"; "zoom out"; and "restart" (then "yes").
